17.05.2024

ŞOK Marketler received an award in the category of “Companies with Highest Rates of Employment Increase” as part of the Capital500 Survey held by the monthly economy journal Capital.

Based on the data acquired as part of the “Capital 500” survey by Capital, where Türkiye’s top 500 private companies are listed, ŞOK Marketler was granted an award for third place in the category of “Companies with Highest Rates of Employment Increase.” The award ceremony, held on May 15, 2024, and attended by senior ŞOK Marketler executives, brought together the leaders of the business world.

ŞOK Marketler achieved to increase in its overall employment from 45 thousand to the level of 47 thousand by continuing to make new investments in 2023. ŞOK Marketler’s recruitments for the 674 new stores it opened last year, as well as its warehouse investments, played a significant role in its success in employment.

Equal opportunities in employment

ŞOK Marketler also stood out with projects for equal opportunities in employment in 2023. Having expanded the “Count Me In” (“ŞOK’ta Ben de Varım”) project, which was launched in 2019 to increase women’s participation in the economy and contribute to equal opportunities for a stronger future, last year, ŞOK Marketler put various handmade products by women’s cooperatives from different parts of Türkiye, particularly the region hit by the major earthquake, up for sale in certain ŞOK Marketler stores. Having made substantial contributions to the production efforts of the women cooperatives it collaborates with through this project, the company also helped the cooperatives to increase female employment.

Uğur Demirel: “We will expand our role in our country’s growth by maintaining our contribution to employment.”

Expressing his gratitude for receiving this award as one of the most prestigious awards in the business world, ŞOK Marketler CEO Uğur Demirel said: “As one of Türkiye’s biggest food retailers, we continue our investments as part of our sustainable growth goals. In 2023, we continued creating employment for our country through a recruitment policy that prioritized candidates from the earthquake area. As one of the companies with the highest rates of employment in Türkiye, we build our employment approach on our principle of equal opportunities. We are proud to have a female employee rate of over 50 percent today thanks to our successful practices and efforts toward equal opportunities.  In addition, we contribute to increasing women’s participation in the economy and employment through our project “Count Me In” (“ŞOK’ta Ben de Varım”). The results of the Capital500 survey have confirmed our contribution to national employment once again. Thanks to all my colleagues who contributed to this success by working for the better every day and contributing to our growth. As ŞOK Marketler, we will maintain our contributions to employment through continued investments.”
